Livvy's shooting for stars as she passes GCSE exam at 14

The sky's the limit for a Yapton girl who has passed a GCSE at the age of 14.

Livvy Warner gained a B grade in astronomy after two years' study in her own time.

She is about to begin her coursework for her GCSEs at St Philip Howard Catholic High School in Barnham with one of the exams already to her credit.

Her double achievement at passing the exam two years early and in addition to her usual school work has delighted her mum, Fay.

She said: "It's absolutely fantastic. Livvy has worked really hard during her course.

"It is great that she has passed it and two years early. This shows how passionate she is about the subject."

Livvy stated: "It feels good to get a GCSE already, considering I have not even started studying for my GCSEs at school yet.

"My interest in astronomy began when I was younger and went outside and saw there were so many stars out there. I was really fascinated and wanted to know what was in the sky."

She studied for the exam in weekly 90-minute lessons over two years of evenings at Slindon College.

She also had plenty of homework to complete ready for questions about the constellations, meteors and meteorites and the time differences of the galaxies.

A telescope of her own has helped her study the night sky in detail. Her interest in the subject stems from her father, Tony. He has been a keen astronomer for years and is building an observatory at the family's home in Church Lane.

Livvy plans to take an A level in astronomy whenever she can but she is undecided if she wants to use her enthusiasm for the subject for a career.
