Mad Hatters throw wacky party at Littlehampton care home

Last week, residents at Regency Court, in South Terrace, let their hair down as part of the Bupa-run home’s “Communi-Tea Week”, a scheme designed by the organisation to help combat the sense of isolation many elderly people can feel while in care.

Everyone from the Queen of Hearts, the White Rabbit and even Alice joined in for the fun at the centre, which had been transformed into Wonderland.

Even Littlehampton’s mayor, Emma Neno, decided to take part in the action dressing up for the occasion, before sitting down with the other party-goers to enjoy the key ingredient of the party – a nice mug of tea.

Janet Gordon, activities co-ordinator at Regency Court, said the day was a ”fantastic success” and that everyone taking part had a “wonderful time”.

The Communi-tea Week, which has since finished, is designed to encourage care centres to invite older people who live on their own into the home to meet residents and to join in fun and activities which are all tea-related.

It has been running successfully for a number of years and has seen more than 300 Bupa care homes across the UK taking part since it was launched.
