Magical performance by primary school pupils
Stars of wonder from primary schools in the area put parents in the Christmas spirit with their joint concert.
The Royal School, an independent day and boarding school in Haslemere, hosted the magical performance on Monday.
They school’s Prep 1 and Prep 2 children were joined by pre-prep choirs from Camelsdale Primary School, Liphook Infant School, Petersfield Infant School, St Mary’s CE Primary School, Chiddingfold, and St Mary’s CE Infant School, Frensham, for the annual Stars of Wonder Christmas carol concert.
After parents had enjoyed coffee and mince pies, the children got everyone in the spirit of the season with their super singing.
Mrs Holly Hirst, head of the junior school, said: “This event is a highlight of the festive calendar at The Royal School. The children always enjoy getting together with those from different schools.
“They had practised the songs at their own schools but I am always impressed at how well the children perform as a group on the day.”
The children took to the stage after an intensive rehearsal session led by Mrs Caroline Davy, head of music at The Royal Junior School.
Accompanied by Mrs Diana Gough, junior school music teacher, on the piano, the children sang a medley of festive songs.
The charming Little Donkey began proceedings and the very different We’re Gonna Run, an upbeat, action-packed favourite from The Royal School’s nativity this year, followed.
Four pupils from the senior school choir took the solo parts in We Three Kings, ably and enthusiastically supported by the younger children.
As is tradition, the concert ended with a lively rendition of We Wish you a Merry Christmas.
Gus from Prep 1 said: “I loved Stars of Wonder because there were loads of children. I felt quite nervous when I went in because of all our parents but when we were singing I forgot I was nervous and I sang so loudly.”
Eliza from Prep 2 said: “It was lovely to have lots of other children because it made the singing louder and better. I think the songs were quite catchy, too.”
