Barry Holleran 42, of Drove Lane, Earnley, was flying for approximately five minutes on March 22 when his motorised paraglider spiralled into marshland.

David Thompson, senior technician at the British Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association, said that the paramotor lost control because the ‘take off trimmers’ – used to slow down the paramotor when taking off – had not been turned off before Mr Holleran began increasing speed.

Karen Henderson, assistant coroner said: “I am satisfied that Barry’s death was the caused by the failure to release the take off trimmers which resulted in the spiralling of the paramotor.”

She added the momentary lapse in memory resulted in ‘an unfortunate and terribly tragic accident’.
