Meeting to launch climate change campaign

THE Sussex Express is inviting green-minded readers to take part in an experiment which could help combat the effects of global warming.

Lewes Climate Concern launches its year-long campaign at the Town Hall tonight (March 15) and a key part of that campaign is to raise awareness of what will happen if we do not reduce our carbon emissions.

The Express, which is supporting the campaign, is inviting volunteer households to make their own contribution:

by reducing the number of times they use their cars

by replacing ordinary light bulbs with low energy bulbs

by ensuring that television sets, videos and computers are not left on stand-by.

There are literally hundreds of ways we can each make a difference. And the Express will devote a regular column to giving advice.

Anyone interested in taking part should e-mail [email protected]

The Express will follow your progress throughout the year.

Each of the three local authorities based in Lewes have pledged their support for the campaign.

Key speakers at tonight's launch meeting are top environmental journalist Polly Toynbee and Lewes MP Norman Baker.

The meeting begins at 7.30pm.
