Members gear up for spring exhibition

Unfortunately not many members were able to attend the meeting and two of our the very long standing members, Ken Mason and Mr Cave, have been unwell.

Chairman Tony Newman spoke of the enjoyment and variety of topics provided by the speakers we had last year and of the full programme now booked for the meetings this coming season.

He reminded members it's not too early to start thinking about what they intend to exhibit in the spring show which is on Saturday, April 5, non-members are also very welcome to exhibit in the shows.

President Norman Page gave his report more in the form of a plea this year for volunteers to join the committee. Pat Alderton, Doreen Edwards and Peter Sharp have come forward to pledge their help.

He also announced he would have an 'open garden' again this year, date to be arranged, to further support the Snowdrop and Chestnut Tree Hospice.

Treasurer Margaret Huntingdon reminded members the annual fee of 5 is now due and suggested they all enter as many classes as possible and/or sponsor a class for the spring show.

The Show Table Cup this year was awarded to Ken Mason, the Joyce Oppler Cup, best handicraft to Mary Benton, and the Walter Cup, best exhibit overall to Mr B Moore.

Following a tea and coffee break members paired up and Tony put them to the test with a 40-question general knowledge quiz. This was great fun and the winning pair were awarded a beautiful Easter egg each.

The next meeting is on Thursday, March 27, in Jubilee Hall, Chalcraft Lane, North Bersted at 7.30pm.

Entrance fee is 1.50 for non members '“ tea, coffee, biscuit and raffle ticket included.

The speaker will be Roger Parsons and his subject will be sweet peas for garden decoration. Everyone welcome, wheelchair access available.
