Firefighters from Midhurst and Petworth, along with a crew from Petersfield, were sent to reports of a fire involving a domestic garage at a property in Fyning Lane, at around 9.20pm.

A spokesperson for Midhurst Fire Station said: "On arrival, crews found the detached double garage roof space well-alight."

After further assistance arrived on request, crews used six breathing apparatus, hosereels, jets and fog nails to 'bring the fire under control'.

Crews remained on scene for 'several hours, undertaking salvage and damping down hotspots'.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said crews worked through the night adding that a re-inspection was due to take place this morning (Tuesday).

Midhurst crew manager Mark Purves praised the 'quick response' and 'great team effort'.

He added: "[The] weight of attack and hard work resulted in loss and damage being limited."
