MIDHURST and Petworth Rotarians met Rotary ambassadorial scholar Mina Kobayashi who arrived in a traditional summer kimono, played the violin for them and spoke of her studies and her home.

She told of the Japanese tsunami disaster saying there had been a resulting fall in tourist numbers and encouraged members to visit.

She has been sponsored to study at the University of Sussex by The Rotary Club of Echigo Kasugayama in Japan.

Arriving last July she has been reading global studies for the past eight months. She is interested in international development and has chosen China as part of her studies.

“The object of the Rotary ambassadorial scholarships programme is to promote international understanding and friendly relations among people of different parts of the world and Mina’s visit to us was a clear demonstration of this intention,” said president Paul Ryan, who exchanged banners with Mina, receiving one from her sponsor in Japan.
