Nearly 40 teams of four took part in the 17th Midhurst and Petworth Rotary Club charity golf day, raising £7,000 for charity adding to last year’s major landmark when the total raised over the years passed the £100,000 mark.
This year the club has two nominated principal charities in Midhurst. 4Sight aims to support and enable blind and partially sighted people to make the best use of their remaining vision. Mind-Coastal West Sussex raises awareness about mental health and tackles the stigma and discrimination.
“For a golf day of this size to be successful a lot of hard work is required,” said Rotary spokesman Helen Chapman, “and thanks go to Roger Poat, Rob Doney and John Barrett for taking the lead and the many helpers.”
She added: “Raising funds of this magnitude is down to the generosity of the many sponsors who help year after year and, of course, Cowdray Golf, who provide a wonderful venue with a superb course to play on.
“Our main sponsor in recent years has been Yeomans Honda,” added Helen, “so it is fitting that they repeated their playing efforts last year by taking the winners’ trophy – well done boys and make sure you put the date for next year in your diaries – Wednesday, August 2, 2017.”
