AN area of land in Lavington Common was deliberately set alight yesterday (August 5).

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service received a call shortly after 6.45pm to Lavington Common off Graffham Road, following reports that undergrowth was smouldering.

A Midhurst crew used one hose reel to make the scene safe and had cleared the area just after 7pm.

This is the second incident in as many days in the same area.

Midhurst firefighters were called to farmland in Lavington on August 4 where a bonfire damaged more than 30 metres of hedgerow.

The crew were called out at 3.15pm on Monday after a blaze spread to a hedge and undergrowth at Farmland off Selham Road.

Two hose reels were used to put out the fire and the scene was cleared by 4pm.
