Midhurst Cricket Club bowled over by the latest funding boost

Cricketers in Midhurst have received a £2,500 boost in the latest round of grants as the beloved old Grange Centre demolished two years ago just goes on giving!

The donation was made from the community grant pot set up by the Grange Community Association. The funds aim to support community projects in the Midhurst and Petworth area.

The six figure grant pot was established with money raised from the sale of everything inside the old Grange before it was bulldozed and the residue of profits from its 35 years as the area’s community centre.

The presentation was made at the Cowdray Ruins cricket pavilion when members of the GCA trust met members of the Midhurst Cricket Club as well as some of the young cricketers.

Peter Glass, Midhurst Cricket Club chairman said: “As a grass roots community sports club we are self-reliant and have to work hard to fundraise to sustain, develop and support our annual programme of activities.

“With significant reductions, over a number of years, in regional and national funding opportunities, the grant will be of enormous benefit in assisting with the purchase of an upgraded roller for pitch preparation which is vital to produce high quality pitches safe for both junior and senior teams.

“We are very fortunate to have this community resource, in Midhurst, and would like to thank the trustees for their interest and continued support.”

Howard Ewing, the club’s junior section chairman added: “We have coaching for ages 12 and under on Friday evenings and for those aged 14 and 15 on Tuesday evenings. It’s all about having fun and there is no more beautiful place to do this than at the Cowdray Ruins. Children learn to develop their hand eye coordination as well as their social skills. They learn to play in a team  -  to win, and to lose, while smiling. They learn to respect decisions, but are free to express themselves.”
