MIDHURST firefighters are opening up the town’s fire station for a community fun day on Saturday, August 16.

Station officer Nigel Gamblen said: “The aim of the day is to bring members of the community into the station to meet the crew and find out how the station operates.”

He said firefighters also hoped to use the occasion to put on a recruitment drive and hoped the occasion might prompt people to think about joining the fire service.

Midhurst firefighters will be demonstrating drills and there will also be a chance for members of the public to ‘have a go’ at being a firefighter.

For the younger visitors to the fire station, there will be a chance to ride on a fire engine.

There will also be refreshments available.

The community fun day takes place from 1pm-5pm and all members of the community are welcome to visit the fire station, to have a look round, watch the crew in action and take part in activities during the afternoon.
