THERE was cake as well as love in the air on Saturday when Midhurst Guides staged their great guiding Valentine bake-off.
The Rainbows had been asked to make fairy cakes, the Brownies to present brownies – naturally – and the Guides were asked to bake a large cake with the adult leaders and senior section being given the title ‘anything goes’.
A coffee morning was also held to further fundraise. Judges Sarah-Jane Willis (previous Great British Bake Off contestant) and Pauline Sherman (Creative Cookie Workshop owner) had the unenviable task of scoring.
The winners were Emily Hyde from Midhurst Rainbows, Rosie Waterhouse from Midhurst Brownies and Lila McDowell from Midhurst Guides, each receiving a £10 Amazon voucher.
A prize for overall presentation was awarded to Hazel West from Midhurst Brownies and best flavour went to Sophie Turley from Midhurst Guides, each receiving a £5 gift voucher for the Creative Cookie shop. A public vote for the adult leaders and senior section cakes produced a clear winner with Alfresco tea for Two.
“We managed to raise not only £150 for the Midhurst HQ, but also awareness that we need more help towards the upkeep of the Carron Lane headquarters,” said spokesman Kirstin Bosley.
“A spring clean morning has been arranged for Saturday, March 14 between 10am-midday. The adult leaders are all volunteers so already give up their own time so it would be great if they could get some parent and public support to help with the upkeep of their headquarters.”
