Shop manager, former restaurant manager Arabella Madge, started as a volunteer in 2010 and has managed it for the last three years seeing the income rise from £48,000.

People feel very passionate about the shop,’ she said. “When they have had the local Macmillan service, they are very generous.”

The shop is unusual in that it provides funding directly to a local Macmillan service – Midhurst Macmillan Specialist Palliative Care Service, which operates from the Pearson Unit at Midhurst Community Hospital.

It plays a crucial role in helping to fund it, now covering around a quarter of its costs. “It feels great to contribute to ensure the local service continues,” said Arabella.

Now, the shop is looking for an assistant manager so that it can open on Sundays: “Having an assistant manager will increase our sales. I would like to see them rise by £10,000,” said Arabella.

The post is for six hours on a Sunday and six hours during the week.
