A DONATION of almost £1,000 has been given to Midhurst Youth Club by members of the Midhurst Masonic Lodge.

The lodge had organised a fundraising barbecue and, knowing the youth club was no longer supported by West Sussex County Council, members decided to contribute the proceeds to the club.

Money raised by the local Masonic lodge is matched by the national body so two cheques were presented, each one for £456. Handing them over, John Backshall explained the work of the Masons and their charitable activities and said he hoped the youth club members would enjoy the equipment they would now be able to afford.

Chairman of the youth club, Colin Hughes said: “The money will be used to buy equipment to be used by the young people either in the club itself or camping equipment for Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions.”

He thanked the Masons, especially Ginny Budd and Clare Adams who organised the barbecue.
