THEY were making paper flowers, leaving tiny painted hand prints on cards and baking gingerbread mums.
They were coming up with tear jerking reasons they loved mum from ‘she puts my coat on in the morning’ to ‘she’s the best mum in all the world.’
It was all in aid of Mothering Sunday and children across the Midhurst and Petworth area had been working on their secret gifts all week.
On Saturday it was the turn of the adults to gather for special posy making working parties in readiness for the Mothering Sunday service.
For Eileen Lintill at Petworth it is always a particularly special time of year.
Joined this year by her grandchildren Austin aged four and Imogen who is one, she makes dozens of posies in memory of her mother Nelly which are presented to mothers during the service at St Mary’s on Mothering Sunday.
At Petworth Caring Day Care pre-school children were hard at work cutting out paper flowers to turn into posies for their mothers and at Midhurst Nursery Class they baked gingerbread Mums and gingerbread children.
They presented their gifts after a special Mothers Day performance featuring a Chinese dragon, ribbon dancing and some special shopping.
