Midhurst Town Council is moving into the second phase of work at the old library in Knockhundred Row, transforming the historic site into a community venue.

This week councillors Steve Morley, Gordon McAra, Jeanette Sutton, Lesley Campbell and Mark Purves set about turning the former reference library into a meeting room and freeing up the rest of the main building as a community facility.

Cllr Steve Morley said: “I look forward to the time, hopefully soon, when residents of Midhurst will be able to utilise this space that we are creating in the old library.

“Once we have finished the DIY work then we will liaise with the various town groups and associations to see how the building can best be used.”

The town council last year signed a lease with West Sussex County Council to take over the building.

Cllr Morley added: “We hope we can complete the redecorating work for the next full council meeting.
