Scottish and Southern Electricity (SSE) has promised the much loved cobbles in Midhurst's North Street will be replaced once cable replacement work has been completed.

Concerns were voiced earlier this year when workmen replaced them with tarmac. But an SSE spokesman said: “All the cobbles have been labelled and stored and will be put back exactly as before.” More cable work is due to take place before they are put back.

She added: “We appreciate how important the cobbles are to the people of Midhurst and we don’t want to cause more upset by putting them back now and possibly having to lift them again while the cable replacement work in North Street is carried out.”
