MINDLESS vandals drove cars onto the Midhurst Town Council-owned Carron Lane recreation ground in the early hours of Wednesday morning,(March 4) churning up the grass and damaging boundary posts.
Midhurst Town clerk Joan Hursthouse said at about 1am, residents living around the edge of the recreation ground were woken by the noise.
It is extremely disappointing to have this small element who don’t appreciate these facilities at all and spoil them for others
“It seems that two vehicles were driving round the recreation ground after removing the posts from the boundary of the rec and the car park at the top of the hill.
“They drove round the grass by the skate park and the new zipwire and were there for quite a while.”
She said from the state of the ground, it appeared that the cars became stuck in the mud and a 4x4 vehicle arrived to help them.
They used rubber mats to get the cars off the mud and left them on the recreation ground.
“For those of us who have spent four years trying to make the Carron Lane recreation ground a family-friendly area with a wide variety of equipment for people of all ages to use, it is extremely disappointing to have this small element who don’t appreciate these facilities at all and spoil them for others.”
