More open days for the historic Coultershaw Bean Pump near Petworth

The trust responsible for a restored 18th century water-driven pump which used to ensure water supplies to Petworth has won planning consent to increase the number of open days it holds.

Chichester District Council has given permission for the Coultershaw Beam Pump, south of the town on the River Rother at Coultershaw Bridge, to add ten days a year to the 26 days it is open for public or educational visits, specifically for tours by schoolchildren.

The decision to approve the Coultershaw Trust’s application could now clear the path for more lottery funding for the scheduled ancient monument.
