Mother hits out at Hyde after four years of damp woes

Katie Phillips, of Uphill Way, Hunston, said shelves had fallen off the kitchen cupboards because of damp, carpets had been ruined and she was unable to drink from a clean cup without rinsing it through first.

“It’s ridiculous,” she said of the situation with Hyde housing association.

“We’ve lost a shelf because it won’t hold up because it’s so damp.”

She added: “I have to wash glasses before I drink from it, even though it’s been in the cupboard. The plates stink and the kids rooms have got damp.”

She reported the problem before her three-year-old daughter was born and said the company had lost inspection reports into her house.

She claimed inspectors had visited her and said they could not take accurate damp readings because her windows were open, so when she closed the windows and they returned, the reason for damp was put down as lack of ventilation.

A spokeswoman from Hyde said the company was now aware from an inspection of what work needed doing and repairs would be completed ‘as soon as we can’.

“We apologise for the delay and any inconvenience caused to Mrs Phillips and her family. We will be in touch with Mrs Phillips in the coming week and would like to reassure her that we are doing everything possible to get the work done quickly and efficiently,” she said.
