Murder victim had links to Bexhill

Carrie Izzard, 48, was found dead by police officers at her West End home at 11.30am on Monday morning after people had expressed concern for her welfare.

A 50-year-old man from Battle, known to the woman, was taken to hospital with serious injuries and upon discharge, arrested on suspicion of murder. He is currently helping police with their enquiries.

Ms Izzard was the widow of Jim Izzard, a former photographer who worked for Bexhill Observer. He died almost two years ago while serving a customer at Hailsham Camera Centre. He was previously the manager of the MXV camera centre in Uckfield.

Carrie used to run The Antiques and Collectors’ Shop in Ninfield Road, Sidley, but is thought to have been working at Battle Tackle shop in Sidley at the time of her death.

Battle Tackle also had a shop at Wylands International Angling Centre in Catsfield.

Police have yet to formally identify the murder victim, but Ms Izzard’s family have taken to social media to confirm it was her.

A post mortem examination is due to take place today (Wednesday, March 23) to determine the cause of death.

Detectives say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death but have renewed an appeal to anyone who noticed anything suspicious in West End, Herstmonceux, over the past few days to contact them.
