Departing chairman of Madhurst Father Marcus Ronchettit has handed over the reins to Simon Goodale who has vowed to take the festival on to new heights.
Mr Goodale said he wanted to work towards ‘positioning the festival as a key event in the local calendar with the aim of attracting visitors to the area leveraging the Midhurst position in the South Downs National Park’.
He said plans were well underway for Madhurst 2012, Midhurst’s music, art and drama festival with more than a week of events being arranged at the end of August that ‘celebrates and develops all that is great in our community’.
He paid tribute to Father Ronchetti who is leaving the parish at Easter for a new challenge in Spain.
“Marcus is a visionary and his drive and determination has in just two years established Madhurst as an event of which the community can be proud – we thank him and wish him the very best of luck in his new role in Spain.”
Father Roncetti said he was proud of what had been achieved by Madhurst so far: “The festival brings together all the creative, artistic and musical talent that is in our wonderful town and the local community has enthusiastically embraced the event with open arms.”
He was also keen to praise the team effort involved in staging the event: “A lot of people and local businesses have rolled up their sleeves to deliver the Madhurst dream and I am so grateful to so many.”
As the new chairman, Simon said he was keen to continue to grow Madhurst. “We have a lot of new ideas to develop the programme for 2012 and bring in more arts and drama events and to involve more sections of our community.”
