Birdham-based contractor W Stirland donated the goals to Fishbourne Romans – a football club for children aged four to 14 which meets at the Fishbourne Centre playing fields.

The good deed came about because of the ‘Social Value Act’. W Stirland won a place on the county council’s ‘Construction and Property Framework’ and as part of this is encouraged to add back something of value to the community.

Chairman of Fishbourne Romans Football Club, Kevin Carter, said: “We’re really grateful for this donation which will make a huge difference to the long term viability of this community club.”

Leader of West Sussex County Council, Louise Goldsmith, added: “It is good to know there is a real benefit to local children coming directly from the framework.”
