Richard Cooper, from the Sailing Club, said: “The boat will provide extra safety cover and expedite training, as the Club is keen to promote increasing regular participation amongst it younger members aged 14 and over.

“The Club received funding from the Sport England Small Grants Programme.”

Amber commented, “It was fantastic to be invited to this special event. Carey Marsh has clearly made a very positive impact on the Club and local community, with so many young people now getting involved in sailing. It was a tremendous success, and everyone was delighted that this boat will help to train sailors for generations to come.

“It was great to see so many people there, to witness the presentation and to celebrate and thank Carey for his lifelong commitment to the Club and sailing in the local area.”

Rye Harbour Sailing Club was founded in 1934 and has been a major part of the local community ever since. Generations of local residents have been trained and continue to use the Sailing Club as a focal point of their weekend activities.

The new boat will be used to help with the training of future generations of sailors.

Club President, Carey Marsh, who has been a member of the Club for over 45 years, and has twice served as Commodore, said he was honoured to have a boat named after him.
