DESPERATELY needed coach parking in Midhurst has come a step closer with a new measure to provide spaces at the bottom of North Street.

Town councillors have been told a new traffic regulation order from West Sussex County Council includes two spaces between the entrance to Midhurst Rother College and the Midhurst Methodist Church.

These were formerly used as school bus parking space.

Although councillors were pleased with the progress, they said there were some four or five spaces at the Grange car park before the development of the new leisure centre and more coach parking should be found.

The town lost all coach parking after the new development and town councillors have been pressing for three years to have it reinstated to cater for tourists wanting to visit Midhurst in the summer months.

Margaret Guest echoed the sentiments of members when she said: “As a town council we are not satisfied that this is sufficient and we are still pursuing more space through Stagecoach and Chichester District Council.”

Town councillors have been in protracted negotiations to try to gain parking spaces at the bus station in North Street.
