Nine illegal immigrants detained

Nine Vietnamese men have been arrested on suspicion of entering the UK illegally after they were spotted fleeing from the back of a lorry in Icklesham yesterday (Monday, August 3).

Police were called to the A259 at around 3.40pm after witnesses reported seeing a number of people getting out the back of a lorry parked in a layby.

The Sussex Police helicopter was scrambled to the scene to locate them.

A spokesperson for the Home Office said: “Home Office immigration officers were contacted by Sussex Police yesterday, August 3, after police officers attended an incident in Icklesham, East Sussex.

“Nine Vietnamese men were arrested on suspicion of entering the UK illegally.

“All nine are currently in immigration detention.

“If it is found they have no right to remain they will face removal from the UK.”
