Ninfield & Hooe Village Voice - August 22

NINFIELD Horticultural Show: The Summer Show held on Saturday was successful. Due to recent heavy rainfalls there were fewer dahlias than usual but all classes had entries. The Memorial Hall looked very colourful and the flower arrangements beautiful.

As one of the committee members attached the 1st, 2nd and 3rd labels on the appropriate cards she found one with the judges comment, 'This could have done with more dressing.'

Little did the judge know that earlier in the day the exhibitor had gone to the kitchen and as she enthusiastically twisted off the top of the container she had splashed one of the helpers with almost all of her dressing! Helper went home to change, exhibitor almost dissolved in tears.

FUN DAY: A message from Maureen explained: "Due to the very wet weather during the week when the field got soaked and with the forecast of more rain for the weekend we decided to postpone the event until September 21." I will, of course, remind you nearer the new date. So much work goes into these events that expecting people to support them when the weather is inclement is being a little too hopeful.

KNITTING FOR KlSIIZI: The most recent newsletter confirmed the last fund-raising event had raised a total of 1,153, thank you to all supporters. There was a lovely photograph of a mother and her premature baby to ask knitters to remember the need for smaller garments for these tiny babies. The next fund raising event will be the Autumn Fair & Coffee Morning on November 1 at Battle Memorial Hall. Reminders will follow.

MERRIMENTS GARDEN: Please do remember that on Thursday (August 28) you can visit Merriments Gardens in Hurst Green for Macmillan Cancer Support. The gardens open 10am-5.30pm, entrance is 4.50, adults and 2 children. Merriments are donating all the entrance money to the Macmillan charity. Let us hope the weather is kind and this is a successful event Mrs Goodsell.

NINFIELD Bowls Club: A call from Brian, the captain, to tell us of the success of Ninfield players last weekend. On Saturday Ninfield played a home match against Ringmer which resulted in a win for Ninfield. The final score Ringmer 74, Ninfield scored 86.

On Sunday, Ninfield were at home to Guestling, the scores were Guestling 53, Ninfield 66, another winning total.

This weekend the matches are both home matches, Saturday against Hellingly and on Sunday against Alexandra Park. May the best team win.

ST. MARY'S CHURCH: On Saturday, August 30, there will be much preparation in the Rectory and Reading Room gardens in the morning and hopefully many visitors to the Summer Fete between 2pm and 4pm. The stalls will offer a tempting variety of goods and challenges including cakes. She who runs the cake stall hopes generous people will be contributing cakes once more. The children will be entertained by Mr Zippy and can have their faces painted by Linda. The Strawberry Teas are guaranteed to be delicious. Please do pay a visit, have a go on the raffle and tombola and help support your village church.
