CHRISTMAS in Cocking has suffered a major set back after the store owner who brought much of the festive cheer ended up in hospital with a broken pelvis.
Linda Henshaw put the village on the gastronomic map with her mouth watering homemade delicacies including her famous Cocking Crunch.
And from November she is usually to be found in the kitchen at Cocking village stores and post office baking thousands of mince pies.
She had already baked a record breaking 1800 in November and was looking at orders for some 2000 more when she fell out of the loft at her daughter’s home.
She and her husband Paul have run the shop since 2008 drawing customers from far and wide for her home baking and providing the Christmas lights.
Linda returned home from Brighton Hospital today (Friday, December 11), but Paul is coping on his own in the shop until she is back on her feet.
“Villagers have been great helping us out and we are very sorry to let them down, but I am afraid there will be no more home baking for a while,” he said.
