Northchapel receives its own vilage crest

AFTER years of talking about it, Northchapel has achieved its own village crest as part of its programme to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The parish council decided to go ahead with the project for the front of the flagpole on the village green, and invited parishioners to submit a design. Children at Northchapel School vied to have their picture chosen but, after much deliberation, the winner was Ivan Talbot, 80, who ran his family coal merchant’s business before retirement. And Willie Poste, parish chairman, said it was appropriate that Mr Talbot was invited to unveil the crest: “When I joined the parish council in 1969, his father was the chairman,” he recalled.
