Northiam

Bonfire Procession: Northiam gets to start the Senlac Bonfire season this year, with a new early date for our Procession. Tomorrow, Saturday 4 October, Main Street will be closed from 6.30pm as our own and visiting Bonfire Societies will be parading with drums, music and flaming torches. The field (next to the cricket field south of the village on the A28 Hastings Road) will be open from 6pm, with a bar, food and amusements. The Societies will gather there and set off at 7.30pm, walking as far as the Muddy Duck (sadly closed, but our bar on the bonfire field will be open) and returning to the field for the Bonfire and Fireworks. So anywhere along Main Street should give you a good view of the procession. The Parish Council has kindly agreed to fund a viewing platform to facilitate access to the bonfire field for those who are less mobile. If this would help you or a family member, please contact Pete or Ruth on 01797 253798 to see if there is still room, as space there is limited. The street collection at the Bonfire goes to local good causes and the Society has decided to a large part of this year’s collection to the Mary Shipstone memorial fund, with donations to Northiam School Crossing Patrol and the Thursday Seniors Club. We are always in need of more collectors, so anyone wishing to help with the bucket collection should contact Simon Merrick at [email protected].

A range of food and drink will be on sale; the entrance fee is £8 which includes access to the gardens.

Badminton: Badminton Clubs in the Pretious Sports Hall run on Fridays, with the Junior Club at 5.30pm and 6.30pm (Primary & Secondary ages), with the adult club following on at 8pm. The Monday club runs for an hour from 5.45pm. All very welcome – we have two courts so can accommodate a range of abilities.
