HUNDREDS of people lined the route of the Olympic torch as it made its way through the Midhurst and Petworth area today (July 16).

Torchbearers proudly carried the flame through Rogate, Midhurst, Easebourne, Tillington, Petworth and Duncton, from where it continued on its journey to Chichester and the coast.

Local torchbearers were Gerald Gresham Cooke, 70, who carried the flame through his home village, Tillington, Emma Johnston-Jones, 35, from Billingshurst, who was in the relay through Petworth, Ryan Hodd-Jarvis, 15, from Petworth, who completed a Duncton leg, and 88-year-old Paul Zetter from Wisborough Green who also took the torch at Duncton.

Onlookers young and old wrapped up warm for a glimpse of the flame, like these youngsters pictured.
