Clegg's Euro-funds

SOME of your readers may be wondering why Nick Clegg appeared to do an about-turn on the recent veto.

Nick was an MEP before becoming an MP. He was, therefore, entitled to a pension from the EU for time served as an MEP but any statement by him against the EU could result in him losing that pension – it is a case of ‘conflict of interest’ on his part. No one who has served as an MEP or Commissioner should be allowed to sit in Parliament unless they forego their EU pension – that includes Kinnock, Patten, and Mandelson.
