The allotment is available for people living with dementia and their carers, either to work in the garden or just to spend time outdoors at their leisure.

Growing vegetables, planting seeds and admiring beautiful flowers is all part of this exciting new project.

So far this year the allotment has produced runner beans, yellow peppers, onions, beetroot, lettuce, tomatoes and chillies.

Doreen Philps, resident at Ardath care home said: “I think the principle of having a community allotment is great, it’s lovely being out in the open and getting fresh air.

For those living with dementia I can see how it’s therapeutic and jogs all sorts of memories.

I’ve always enjoyed having fresh fruit and vegetables; they have a taste of their own which you just can’t get in the shops.”

This is a really exciting project for the Bexhill Dementia Action Alliance and the group are looking for support from local businesses to ensure that the allotment is maintained regularly.

This is a great opportunity for any care providers in the community.
