Observer Comment: Keep on making life difficult for criminals

IT just goes to show that being vigilant really does work in the fight against crime.

An eagle-eyed member of Rother Neighbourhood Watch helped police arrest two men for burglary after spotting suspicious behaviour at a home in Richmond Close earlier this month.

The tip-off on the attempted break-in resulted in a quick response from officers, detectives and a dog unit.

And in February, quick-thinking bank clerk Donna Gibbons saved a Bexhill woman from being stung by a cold-calling rogue trader who had persuaded her she needed gardening work done.

The scammer had driven the woman to Barclays Bank with the intention of getting her to draw out cash for him there and then.

Donna raised the alarm with trading standards, and other bank workers confronted the man, who fled empty-handed.

Rother Neighbourhood Watch itself is going from strength to strength since its launch.

The latest feather in the organisation’s cap is a message of support posted on its website by Baroness Browning, Minister for Crime Prevention and Anti Social Behaviour Reduction.
