I have no idea why I do this to myself – it is not as if I have nothing else to do.
But on Sunday afternoon instead of sitting down, relaxing and enjoying a child-free evening, I thought it would be a great opportunity to start decorating the living room.
Like I said, it is not as if I have nothing else to do.
If I didn’t feel like just having a laze about, there was some ironing to do, children’s toy boxes to sort, cupboards to clear, paperwork to file... oh yes, the list is endless.
After all, a woman’s work is never done.
It seems that I am just bonkers and thought to myself I just needed that one extra thing to do then, obviously!
But there was method in my madness I promise.
Trying to redecorate while children are around is not easy at the best of times.
They want to ‘help’ – a term I use loosely – and you can bet your bottom dollar little paint fingermarks (or footprints) would be appearing throughout my house.
Not to mention the fact it would be all over their hair, clothes, the floor, random bits of furniture – just the thought of it all sends me into a cold sweat.
My other second, very practical reason for the repaint is that I want to treat myself to a new carpet (oh, when did I become such a grown-up) so this is a job to be done first.
And so I found myself surrounded by higgedly-piggedly furniture which made it look as though I had built a den in my living room.
I changed into my decorating clothes and set about my work, doing what I could before I lost the light – and started to question the wisdom of my decorating decision!
As it stands, it is a case of three walls down, and one wall to go which I will probably finish off tomorrow if I can and then my house will go back to normal.
Unfortunately though, that pile of ironing, paperwork and other boring jobs is still there waiting for me.
Unless of course I can think of something else which needs painting!
First wobbly teeth...
‘MUMMY I have good news’, my son told me with excitement – and then showed me his first two wobbly teeth.
So his ‘good news’ was the fact the tooth fairy would soon be paying a visit to our house.
This then sparked a discussion on the going rate of a tooth fairy.
Fifty pence a tooth sounds fair, right?
