LETTER: Festival thanks to City Council

A fantastic programme is coming together for our fourth Festival of Chichester which will open on June 18.

The brochure has been compiled, and we are delighted with the treasures it contains.

We look forward to announcing it soon.

But first I would be grateful for the chance, through the columns of the Chichester Observer, to offer the Festival’s sincere thanks to Chichester City Council. For the third year in a row, the City Council has agreed to give us a generous grant towards our costs.

With each year, with increased ambition and with increased expectations, the Festival seems to get that little bit more expensive to put on.

The support of Chichester City Council is vital to us, and we are hugely grateful to them – grateful too for the support which the City Council gives us in so many other ways besides.

They host our annual public meeting, and it is great to know that the City Council officers are happy to advise us in any way at any time.

We are still a young, emerging Festival; to be able to draw on the expertise and advice of the City Council is invaluable.

The Festival of Chichester is a wonderful thing for the city of Chichester, but it cannot happen without the backing of Chichester’s great institutions. From the word go, the Chichester Observer has been a staunch and cherished ally; we are proud also to count Chichester City Council among our key supporters.

Dr P. G. Hewitt
