LETTER: Proposed site ruined no views

I had hoped that this chapter was closed but once again Dick Pratt has commented on things that I have not said.

I hope that he sticks to the point when he is chairing his meetings.

I know how difficult it can be to absorb every nuance but at least they are presumably in English, unlike many of the national and international meetings which I have chaired on behalf of the UK Government (including Concorde, for which I was given the final say on whether to scrap it or modify it, when the first production aircraft could not meet its performance guarantees and I was given full technical and financial authority for the aircraft and made the UK chairman of the Anglo French Committee of Concorde Tehnical Directors).

How can he compare the east-west corridor, invented apparently by the planners, with the AONB, decreed by a national body and of even more importance than national parks in planning terms. In any case, when it suits the planners they are quite happy to build on this strip when it suits them; for example, the estate built to the west of Broadbridge, fringing the A259, which cuts off some views of the Downs and the building in and around Fishbourne.

The site which I proposed would ruin no views of the Downs, as the small existing estate demonstrates.

I did not assert that the neighbourhood plan team hid from view the AONB; I said in my letter that no one would discuss the AONB with me.

I certainly do not remember being given the option of invoking the AONB to stop all the building proposed in the questionaire which was circulated to judge the villagers’ desires.

Finally, what on earth is he talking about when he refers twice to my property; I just pointed out that I had not affected the environment when I bought an existing property ithin the AONB.

I hope this is the end of his comments.
