LETTER: Some A27 idea suggestions

I'm puzzled as to why the northern option was removed from the list of options so quickly, leaving scant time for members of the public to have proper debate and consultation.

Could it be that it was never really intended that we the residents should actually have a say. Is this the way democracy now works in Great Britain?

At a meeting held in Stockbridge Hall on September 5th to allow the residents to vote on the option deemed the most suitable it was abundantly clear that the almost unanimous vote could only be No Option in the absence of a northern option.

Quite obviously the only intelligent route to reduce the misery of the unacceptable congestion on the A286 and the A27 must be a northern route.

This is no longer just a seasonal problem but with ever increasing homes being erected on the Manhood peninsular it is now a daily crawl from dawn to dusk.

I have no skills in the building of roads and highways, but looking at my local area and in the unlikely event of common sense prevailing and the northern route getting the green light, I would like to make the following suggestions:

1) Scrap the Stockbridge Link Road

2) Leave the Chichester bypass as it is with the addition of flyovers at the four roundabouts between the Bognor Road and Fishbourne Road junctions

3) Consider a two tier system over the existing bypass to carry all through traffic in both directions with filter lanes to facilitate local traffic entering and exiting the city centre and the Manhood peninsular.

These suggestions would in my opinion reduce the need to demolish buildings on the same scale as other options, reduce the time scale to implement and hopefully reduce the overall cost.
