Bah humbug!

I FELT I just had to write in regarding D.A. Wiseman's letter (Gazette, October 8) and Dee Hollingsworth's Letter (Gazette, September 24).

Firstly, I would like to thank Dee for her "rant" about Haskins, because without reading it, I wouldn't have known that an afternoon shopping trip was about to commence for all things known as "sparkly tat"!

I ventured to Haskins, then also on to Country Fayre, and was astonished to hear so many people stepping through the doors whinging and moaning about the Christmas decorations in store in September..."It's an outrage", "It's a joke '“ gets earlier every year"...only to look in the trolleys of those people who were moaning to see them piled with all things Christmas. Why moan about it but then buy the things?

I for one think it is absolutely wonderful that Haskins and Country Fayre have stocked Christmas things in September. As the whole world knows, we are currently in a recession and times are hard for everyone, so to be able to have the opportunity to spread the cost of Christmas by being able to buy things in September is an excellent idea and one I am sure will help a lot of hard-working families who are currently watching the pennies to spread the cost of Christmas, so they don't spend the whole of next year paying off this year's Christmas debt!

After all, every money expert is currently advising families to have a Christmas cupboard and purchase things gradually between now and Christmas to spread the cost and avoid the debt, so well done, Haskins, Country Fayre and any other store that has its Christmas stock in already.

I for one thank you for supporting me as a consumer and allowing me to prepare a wonderful Christmas for my family without having to worry about being in debt afterwards, and to everyone else who moans '“ "bah humbug" is what I say!
