In her ‘Out in the Field’ column, Annmarie Field described the people who torched Camilla’s Bookshop last week as ‘rascals’ – I think many of those who regularly visit the shop would use a much harsher term to describe them and hope for severe punishment to fall on their heads.

Camilla’s bookshop is a genuine gem and part of the character of Eastbourne; it would be a grievous loss to the town if this mindless act of arson forces it to close down.

Unlike all the chain stores, Camilla’s has genuine character and is (was) an Aladdin’s Cave of fantastic reading and other materials.

It is well worth restoring.

I sincerely hope that the owners, Stuart and Camilla, can recover from the terrible shock and are able to resurrect this wonderful book emporium for the benefit of the entire town.
