Can I just say how disappointed I am with certain members of the senior citizens in this town of which I am one.

Tescos in Lottbridge Drove is doing a tremendous job trying to keep everyone safe.

Unfortunately certain OAPs in Eastbourne don’t think these measures apply to them! Queuing for the 9am to 10am OAP shopping slot is not a problem. Yes it’s slow but so what? We’re all in the same position. I watched a couple in the queue in the car park (I assume a husband and wife) talking to a young man from Tesco trying to reassure people that Tesco was doing its best and getting them into the right queue (one for OAPs and one for everyone else).

This couple were not observing the social distancing rule and in fact were right in the face of the young man trying to help.

The rest of us were in an orderly queue and trying to make sure everyone was safe.

This couple just didn’t seem to think it applied to them. I noticed that they each had a shopping trolley. When my partner and I got to the entrance of Tesco we were told that only one of us was allowed into the store because only four people were allowed in an aisle at one time and two people with one trolley would deprive someone else.

That was perfectly fine for us. My other half went back to the car to wait for me. Sadly the couple in front had a trolley each and were allowed in. Who knows if they admitted they were together.

Once I was inside Tesco I unfortunately came within hearing distance of this “couple” and I overheard the man saying to the woman “you go this way I’ll go this way and just take anything you can get your hands on, whatever it is”.

Please tell me why this couple thought they were different to everyone else?

I am ashamed to be a member of the seniors in this town if they are represented by the couple I came across on Monday morning.

I have to say that I got everything I needed in Tesco. The shelves were fully stocked and it was all very orderly apart from a few customers (again senior citizens) who pushed and shoved to get what they wanted. Shameful!
