Excellent exhibits at summer show

The entries were the highest ever with many new exhibitors. The hall was busy in the morning with people arriving bringing and arranging their exhibits.

The main hall, decked with bunting, showed a variety of vegetables ranging in all sizes, beautiful flowers, single specimens, vases of garden flowers and foliage as well as pot plants and the society’s competition of fuschias grown from cuttings.

The perfume and colour from all the displays were amazing. The size of some of the species of dahlias were spectacular.

The room at the back held the entries of mouth watering cookery and preserves, (a time to forget the calories.) In the next room there were many photographs to admire, the topics being ducks or dogs, dawn to dusk and decayed or damaged subjects. The entries for the children’s classes ranged from five years and under which was finger paintings and six to 10 years showing drawings and paintings of favourite cartoon characters. There was a record number of children’s exhibits which proved very popular with visitors. There was only one entry for something grown and one for gingerbread men which was for the junior class but hopefully more youngsters will become interested and enter in future shows.

The show judges all agreed that the entries to all classes was excellent .

The refreshments as always did well with tea and lovely homemade cakes and the music played during the afternoon by “Sound Accord” made it a memorable show.
