Freeze forgotten

I was reading one of our new notice boards along the new walkway in Pier Road, Littlehampton, beside the river, about the history of the river mouth.

At the base of the board, it stated that the sea and river were frozen in the years 1907 and 1962/63, but there was no mention of 1947.

I wondered if 1907 was a misprint, or why our local historians had failed to add 1947, as it was probably one of the worst winters on record. I was born in Pier Road in 1947 and although I was only a baby, I do know for a fact that the river was frozen over that year.

On a more positive note, I think the new work along the river is fantastic and congratulations to all involved.
