I'm not guilty, sir!

WOW! Attention! You could be stopped by the police, as I was last week, driving along, very happy, had just been treated by friends to an excellent lunch in a country pub.

Leaving there, I decided to take the scenic route home, when suddenly the law steps in front of my car, waving me to stop - which I did with alacrity.

I was asked by the officer had I had a drink, and could in all honesty say: “Yes, just one glass of wine.” I would not lose my licence for a drink.

Interestingly, a friend asked me afterwards why the police had stopped me. Well, why wouldn’t they? It was a random check on drink-driving. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. But not guilty, sir.
