Initial doubts
While I find the articles by W. S. (our columnist Whispering Smith – editor) interesting, I still cannot accept his use of LA as an abbreviation for Littlehampton.
Only one LA exists, several thousand miles away.
It would appear I am not the only one to feel this way.
I can accept the reasoning behind his use of the letters, but equally, LI, in my view, would serve the same purpose and be more appropriate, as those letters appear in ships’ registrations, and have done so for many years.
No doubt LA will remain, as I see we now have the letters included in a secondhand goods shop and a café.
