Is the council bottling out of its recycling responsibilities?

READING the Rother council pamphlet for Christmas recycling, it now says that if it’s bottle shaped it can be recycled but nothing else as it’s not financially viable due to the plastics that are bought.

Was not the whole idea of recycling not about how much it is worth on the open market but so as landfills did not fill up?

What’s the point of manufacturers putting the symbols on the packaging if, because of its value, it goes to waste?

When do councils publish how much is raised from the scrap value of - not only the metal and plastic - but all the waste collected, or does it go straight to the waste collecting companies?
