LETTER: Collaboration with our neighbours

In his letter headlined ‘Dumping ground for Crawley’, Mr S.G. Coppen states that ‘Crawley council is still determined to dump its own housing plan shortfall onto the abused and unhappy residents of North Horsham’.

This statement is factually incorrect, as are several other statements in his letter.

Crawley has a shortfall in housing of 5,000 units over the 15 years of our Local Plan, and, in accordance with Government legislation known as ‘Duty to Cooperate’ we have been working with our neighbouring authorities, including Horsham, to include the shortfall within their Local Plans.

This co-operation has been working very well with Horsham, but does not identify specific sites or locations for Crawley’s shortfall – that is the responsibility of Horsham and our other neighbours.

Crawley does wish to build homes to meet the needs of its population but it is doing this in collaboration with its neighbours, including Horsham, not by dumping on Horsham residents!
