No follow-ups?

I AM saddened that, as yet, no one has followed up my comments on the letters page (“My manifesto...”, December 22) or approached me about my affordable mortgage scheme.

This scheme has the potential to make housing benefit fiscally neutral, with a potential saving to this country of £15bn a year, year on year. People would also be secure in their homes, and not lose their home if they lost their job.

In my manifesto, I also advocated the opening of a drop shop – an easy idea. You don’t have to take a day off work, just have your item directed to us in premises we are negotiating for in Beach Road, Littlehampton.

The system would work by people giving us their contact number, and when their parcel arrives, we let them know and they can pick it up at their convenience. We don’t charge, but just ask for a fair donation. This takes tax out of the game and allows more money to go to the young people of Littlehampton. The money would be ring-fenced for this purpose.

This drop shop is ready to go. We just need the start-up costs. I ask – I beg – for donations to the business account for the drop shop, Mr Don A. Fisher, HSBC bank, sort code 402823, account number 61471481.

I have received grant application forms from Littlehampton Town and Arun District councils and I hope they help. I also thank the mayor, Alan Gammon, county councillor Dr James Walsh, Fr Roger Caswell and Sister Anastasia and the nuns at St Joseph’s Convent for their support.

I have also sent a copy of my book Heartbreak Valentine to the Queen in a further endeavour to raise funds.

Finally, I ask people, don’t buy a lottery ticket, send me £1. I do hope the community embraces this idea and donates to it. No money, no drop shop. This isn’t an end, but just a beginning.
