'Not a dry eye' for Chandlers' final farewell

I WOULD like to, through your letters page, thank the Chandler Variety Company members for all their hard work in putting on shows over many years for charity.

Last weekend saw the final production by the troupe and it was a very sad day when the Chandlers gave their last performance.

The feelings of everyone there were echoed in the song written specifically for the event by Daniel Paine.

I do not think that there was a dry eye in the house.

It is particularly sad that the closure of this excellent band of performers was caused by the escalating costs of hiring the Windmill Theatre.

I always thought that the original idea of building this venue was to host charity events.

It has always amazed me the energy and enthusiasm this group of artistes have, and it is all to raise funds for local and national charities.

It was always refreshing to find a variety company whose performance came up to expectations every time.

The costumes were colourful and the choreography excellent – a truly memorable experience for the lucky audience.

How we will all miss this wonderful event.
